21A – Reading Reflection No. 2

How to Fail at Almost Everything and Still Win Big, Scott Adams
1) What was the general theme or argument of the book?
The theme of the book centered around how failures help you to grow as an individual which will ultimately lead to more knowledge and eventually success.
2) How did the book, in your opinion, connect with and enhance what you are learning in ENT 3003?
I thought the book was similar in a lot of aspects to what we are learning in ENT 3003. For instance one of the main points of the author focused on looking out to the community. This felt somewhat related to our previous assignments where we went out into the community in search of feedback and critiques of our products.
I felt it enhanced what I was learning in ENT 3003 with its message of not giving up when hitting failures but instead learning and growing from them.
3) If you had to design an exercise for this class, based on the book you read, what would that exercise involve?
In the book the author talk a lot about looking after yourself first in foremost. I would give the class an assignment to track their sleep, meals and exercise to make sure they are looking after their own health.
4) What was your biggest surprise or 'aha' moment when reading the book? In other words, what did you learn that differed most from your expectations?
I thought it was really interesting that the book talked about taking care of yourself before looking out for others. This made a lot of sense when creating a business because its survival is the most important aspect. Being selfish to achieve success is still achieving success which was a huge takeaway.

  1. Travis,
I did not choose to read this book. However, your post made it seem like a pretty interesting read. The content of this book is just what some need in order to become far more determined and resilient. I like how you connected the author's message to the business world and thought it was rather logical. Great job.
