The Wright Brothers, David McCullough
1)
- What surprised you the most?
- What about the entrepreneur did you most admire?
- What about the entrepreneur did you least admire?
- Did the entrepreneur encounter adversity and failure? If so, what did they do about it
2) What competencies did you notice that the entrepreneur exhibited?
The Wright Brothers were extremely innovative and were able to learn from their mistakes.
3) Identify at least one part of the reading that was confusing to you.
I thought it was confusing that the United States didn't immediately see the benefits of the Wright brothers' invention. The fact that they had to first go to Europe to achieve success did not make much sense to me.
4) If you were able to ask two questions to the entrepreneur, what would you ask? Why?
What kept you motivated while dealing with failures?
I'd ask this question because I find it daunting to restart a task after I have not succeeded in it.
What motivated you to start this daunting journey?
I'd ask this question because I find I need a strong motivator to keep me working harf.
5) For fun: what do you think the entrepreneur's opinion was of hard work? Do you share that opinion?
I'm sure the Wright brothers believed hard work was necessary to achieving success. I do share this belief with them.
I'm surprised to see you say the Wright brothers had lofty goals that prevented them from pursuing flight. I knew they ran a bicycle shop, but I didn't think there was anything else. Regarding your questions to them, I agree wholeheartedly and asked similar things of the entrepreneur I read about. Motivation is one of the hardest things to maintain, but I think if you're really passionate about what you're pursuing, that helps a lot to keep your goals in focus.
ReplyDeleteHey Travis,
ReplyDeleteI think this is a really cool reflection. I decided to do mine on Elon Musk but the Wright Brothers are essentially the same thing but of the last century. There are a lot of risks that come in making something that people are not used to. Also, the questions that you would ask are great. Dealing with failure is huge and being an inventor would mean that they are well used to it.
Hey Travis, the Wright brothers are such interesting people! I actually knew some things about them prior to reading your post, but I was able to learn new things based on your descriptions of them. I noticed that all entrepreneurs have one thing in common, and that is not giving up even though there are obstacles present. Overall, I think your post was great and I liked how in detailed you were with your descriptions!
